Leopard (Panthera pardus )
I didn't take the photo above, but we were lucky enough to see a leopard in the Moremi Wildlife Reserve. It was lying camouflaged in the grass. Then, disturbed by the noise of our truck, it rose, walked slowly around the truck, and slipped away, out of sight, into the long grass... it was a magical moment. Leopards are rarely seen, as they are mainly active after dark.

See Moremi in the itinerary
The Leopard is a silent and secretive animal; it is this behavior which has contributed to its survival in areas inhabited by man.
They are solitary creatures usually only coming together to mate, fight or rear cubs.
Leopards feed on a variety of prey, they will eat anything from insects and rodents to large ungulates and are known to kill prey weighing much more than themselves.
Both lions and hyenas will take away a leopard's kill if they can. To prevent this leopards store their larger kills in trees where they can feed on them in relative safety.
